TLA1: Lectures
Instructor will give lectures to introduce the major sociological theories and applications.

TLA2: Student Presentations & Class Discussions

Students will give group presentations on selected sociological theories and applications. These presentations will facilitate further class discussions.

TLA3: Individual Projects

Individual student will submit one book review and one term paper for this course. Selection of book and term paper topic should fall in line with the student’s interests and the scope of the course. The book review will be submitted by the student to formulate a feasible term paper topic by the first half of the course. With the instructor’s inputs, the students will continue to work on the term paper.

AT1: Individual Term Paper (30%)
A term essay to interrogate a topic that the student will formulate through the book review and group presentation. The topic should be endorsed by the instructor.

AT2: Book Review (20%)

A book review should be submitted. Individual students are encouraged to review a book relevant to the course and make use of the book review to explore a topic and formulate a reading list that they are going to work on for the term paper.
AT3: Student Group Presentations (20%)
Student groups will be scheduled to present a topic of interests. These presentations are expected to facilitate more class discussions. The students are welcome to group themselves up in accordance with similar topics of interests so that they could also connect the presentation with book review and term paper.
AT4: Examination (30%)
Examination questions will be designed in accordance with the topics covered by student presentations, book reviews and term paper preparations with reasonable modifications.


Grading of Student Achievement:

Refer to Grading of Courses in the Academic Regulations (Attachment) and to the Explanatory Notes to establish grading standards.
Standards (A+AA-…F). Grading is based on student performance in assessment tasks/activities.
