Part II

Course Aims:
The course aims to provide students with a broader and deeper understanding of the increasingly intimate relationship between Hong Kong and mainland China. After learning this course, students will be equipped with better knowledge of the interactions between Hong Kong and Mainland China in general, and in particular, major social, political, economic and environmental issues associated with the integration. Forces that promote and deter further integration will be examined.

Lectures will summarise and explain the development of Hong Kong and Mainland China integration from social, political, economic and environmental aspects. Student-teacher interactions will frequently take place in the form of class debate and discussion. Guest lectures will also be offered on related topics when appropriate.

Essential readings on topical themes will be assigned to students for self study and follow-up in class discussions.

Students form into small groups for an in-depth study of specific topics. Group presentation and discussion will be conducted at the tutorial section. An individual analytical paper is required after the tutorial presentation and discussion.

1 project per semester and 1 hour per week for group discussion
