Part II

Course Aims:

  • provide students with knowledge of modern transportation and logistics management.
  • develop students’ analytical ability to plan, organize and control the products, money and information flow for transportation organizations.
  • prepare students for a position in managing business activities for transportation in the commercial and government sectors in both local and global environments.

1-4 1.Lectures:
Concepts and general knowledge of transportation are explained.

1-4 2. Tutorial:
Students work in groups of four to six to recap and answer questions on the major topics/points they learned in the previous lecture. They are required to share and present their answers to the class. The lecturer provides instant feedback based on students' responses.

1-4 3. Reading Assignments:
Students have to read the assigned materials individually about the real-life transportation industry and are required to discuss, comment on and critically evaluate the content during tutorials.

1-4 4. Video:
Videos about real-world local and overseas business cases are shown. These are followed up with class discussions that provide students with the opportunity to create and evaluate alternative solutions to problems in the transportation industry.

1-42. Tutorial Discussion Students work in groups to collect ideas and discuss the answers to questions arising from case study problems and / or tutorial exercises. 10%
1-4 3. Individual Assignments Students collaborate to carry out problem-based activities based on real problems in Hong Kong transportation and logistics organizations. Students will be required to identify problems or opportunities in cases sourced worldwide or identified in Hong Kong organizations, collect relevant data, analyze the problem or opportunities, find solutions to the problems and make recommendations for implementing the solutions. 25%
1-3 4. Mid-term Test The mid-term test is designed to assess students’ understanding of the key concepts and fundamental knowledge of the subject of modes of transportation and their service characteristics. 15%
