EN5609 New Media Design from Cultural and Socio-Psychological Perspectives

Course Aims & Objectives: 
 

This course will give an overview of cultural and socio-psychological theories of new media design and the Internet communication. The course introduces methods of critical analysis to analyze major developments within digital media, cyber culture and web communities. By exploring critical ideas and testing out design modules, students explore the effects of digital media on culture, identity, the body, gender, sexuality, community activism, globalization, and art. The course will enable students to be versed in theories and production methods, by responding to class materials and new media environments. Students are also asked to carry out practical exercises in new media design by making a website around a semester-theme.
