Part II Course Aims:
This course aims to: - provide a bridge to English for Academic Purposes (EAP)
- enhance students’ proficiency in reading and writing in an academic context to a level benchmarked against international standards
- develop students’ proficiency in sharing their understanding of reading texts and interacting in a reading group

This course will be 50% assessed by coursework and three assessment tasks, and 50% assessed by an end-of-course examination. Students are expected to fulfil 80% attendance for each of the THREE components of the course, namely classroom tutorials, reading groups and online language learning activities. | i) | Assessment One: Writing a short text (20%) Task Description This task consists of two drafts. In part I, students will write a short text of about 450 words. Feedback will be given on how to improve the text. This task is worth 5% of the total mark for the course. In part II, students will submit a revised version of the short text. This task is worth 15% of the total mark for the course.

| | ii) | Assessment Two: Reading Group Activities (15%) Task Description Students need to complete a number of activities for the reading group satisfactorily.

| | iii) | Assessment Three: Online language tasks (15%) Task Description Students will complete a number of language learning tasks online in the workshops.

| | iv) | Assessment Four: End-of-Course Exam: Reading and writing (50%) This task consists of 2 parts. In part 1, students will answer a range of questions based on one or more short reading passages.
