CS3275 Introduction to the Internet and its Applications

Course Aims & Objectives:
This course is aimed at developing an appreciation of the Internet and its application in various fields. Students will also come to appreciate the network structure and the high level design and purposes of major Internet protocols and services and their actual and potential applications.  On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to use the main Internet services and to set up simple Internet services. He/she should also be able to evaluate Internet technology under various application environments.

Teaching Pattern:
Duration of course: 1 semester
Current mix of lecture/tutorial/laboratory, other: 2 hrs lecture; 1 hr. tutorial.

Assessment Pattern:
Examination duration: 2 hours
Percentage of coursework, examination, etc.: 40% CW; 60% Exam
Grading pattern: Standard (A+AA-...F)
For a student to pass the course, at least 30% of the maximum mark for the examination must be obtained.
