CS1202 Using the Web as a Learning Resource

Course Aims & Objectives:
The aim of this course is to develop knowledge and skill to effectively utilize the Web as a resource to assist a student in his/her learning. 

Upon completing the course, students should be able to:

  • understand the basic concepts and technologies of the Internet and the Web,
  • search and dissemination information effectively on the Web,
  • use web applications for data collection,
  • be aware of the basic privacy and legal aspects of using the web.

Internet structure and ISP services, common Internet, file transfer protocol, web protocols, web clients and web servers, mark-up languages, html, dhtml, basic xml, multimedia and animation tools, web searching techniques, basic web site design, web applications, search engine, survey tools, web publishing tools, data warehousing and mining concepts, copy rights and intellectual properties protection, web privacy.

Duration of course: 1 semester

2 hrs. lecture; 1 hr. tutorial.
