Course Aims:


This course aims to introduce students to theories and concepts in sociological and anthropological studies of religions, to use these concepts and theories to help them to explore some religions active in Asian societies, and to understand the interactions in various societies between religions, society, and the state, including the role of religions in ethnic relations and conflicts, and in political struggles over state policies or control of the state. The course also aims to help students understand the world views of believers. Field trips are a part of the course, and will provide students with opportunities to talk to believers in the settings where they engage in religious activities.
